History, literature and public argument across a continent whose borders, languages and political orders have repeatedly been remade. This editorial collection places Britain and Ireland within a wider European frame and brings foundational texts into conversation with modern scholarship, disputed memories and present-day analysis.
No single Europe. No single past.
Europe is read here as a field of encounters: classical and Christian inheritances; Jewish and Islamic intellectual worlds; kingdoms, republics and empires; vernacular cultures and borderlands; industrial modernity, colonial power, revolution, war and democratic reconstruction. British history is neither isolated from the continent nor reduced to imperial achievement. Each shelf is designed to hold primary records, literary testimony and competing interpretations together.
